The PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) was quick to jump into the act and were in no mood to spare the Rawalpindi Pindz pacer for his obnoxious tweet. In what is seen as a “draconian” move from the PCB, the governing body handed the pacer one of the toughest punishments in the history of Pakistan cricket. Naseem was slapped with a fine of a staggering PKR 20 million ($ 72,000 approx), which comprises nearly 8 months’ worth of money from his central contract.

So How Did Naseem Shah Tweet Controversy Fuel Drama & Chaos?

So the tweet, which has been doing the rounds amid this controversy, can be found in the news clipping above. The Naseem Shah tweet controversy first came to light minutes before the kick-off of the first match of PSL 2026. Maryam Nawaz, the daughter of Nawaz Sharif, who also happens to be the current serving Chief Minister of Punjab province, was invited as a chief guest and welcomed by the match officials.

This is when the Naseem Shah tweet controversy ignited a firestorm, causing irreparable damage to Naseem’s reputation. In response to Maryam’s presence at the venue, Naseem issued a tweet to express his displeasure.

Little did he know about the grave consequences that he was about to face for committing this blunder. To prevent the tweet controversy from spiraling out of control, Naseem deleted the tweet and then offered an explanation stating that his account was hacked.

But the Naseem Shah tweet controversy had already done the bulk of the damage. Shortly after the opening PSL 2026 game was over, Naseem was issued a show-cause notice by the PCB. The Rawalpindi pacer appeared in front of the three-member committee and pleaded guilty to the offence. As a result, Naseem was penalized for breaching his contract and behaving irresponsibly on social media, resulting in a galloping fine of PKR 20 million.

Inside the PCB’s Long-Standing Tradition of Fining Players

This is not the first recorded instance wherein the PCB went out of its way to punish its player. Barring the Naseem Shah tweet controversy aside, Pakistan all-rounder Aamer Jamal was also fined $4000 USD last season for reportedly showing support and standing in solidarity with the now-jailed Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan.

In the ongoing PSL season alone, further drama unfolded after the Naseem Shah tweet controversy went viral. In a bizarre turn of events. The Lahore Qalanders franchise imposed a PKR 1 million fine on their captain, Shaheen Afridi, for violating security protocols at the team hotel. As far as Naseem’s current performance goes, the pacer has featured in just a solitary fixture for Rawalpindi Pindiz this season, returning embarrassing figures of 0-51 against Peshawar Zalmi.
