The Indian Premier League (IPL) is never short of drama, and the latest 19th edition has just witnessed its first major controversy. Following the end of the CSK vs RCB fixture at M Chinnaswamy on April 5, the DJ, tasked with entertaining the crowd for that fixture, has come under the scanner. The major reason for his scrutiny has to do with the fact that the famous idli-dosa song was played far too often during the game, which evidently didn’t sit too well with the CSK supporters and, most importantly, the franchise.
CSK, the six-time champions, have reportedly reached out to the BCCI to lodge a formal complaint. As far as we know, the idly dosa controversy is now under BCCI’s review, and an official response from the apex body is awaited. Besides, CSK also highlighted concerns about certain accompanying comments and meme references, which they felt were not in good faith during the match. According to CSK’s managing director, Kasi Viswanathan, the stadium atmosphere around M. Chinnaswamy seemed quite hostile, and the fact that the idly dosa soundtrack was played on top of that only added further insult to injury.
“The DJs are usually around to support the home team. But at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, it was different. Certain comments were made against our players. Considering it, we have written to the BCCI to have a look into it.”

Understanding The Context Behind Idly Dosa Soundtrack & Why It Left The CSK Supporters Red-Faced?

Idly and dosa are one or the most favorite delicacies enjoyed by the indigenous people of South India, which also happens to house Chennai, the provincial capital of Tamil Nadu. It’s made of fermented lentil and rice. The dish is so popular that it is no longer confined to just South India alone. The famous idly dosa song first became viral sometime in March last year. The song was an instant hit as many YouTubers and content creators back then scrambled to incorporate this soundtrack into their homegrown content. The song also had a touch of humor, which resonated well with the general Indian population, but at the same time, served as meme material, aimed at trolling the South Indians, most notably the folks from Chennai.
In the times to come, many would go on to use this soundtrack while sharing reels and funny videos on Instagram and Facebook. And that probably explains why CSK’s sentiments were hurt during this game. The DJ’s repeated move to play that soundtrack severely backfired. The CSK franchise viewed this idli dosa song more as a jibe instead of a motivational boost. And the fact that the CSK lost badly in front of a jam-packed Chinnswammy crowd further compounded their problems, thereby adding fuel to the fire.
Progress Report Of The Two Teams in IPL 2026 So Far

Let’s take a break from the idli dosa controversy and shift our attention to the current standings of the two teams this season. It’s been a tale of two contrasting teams. Gone are those days when the CSK vs RCB provided peak entertainment. Since 2023, the gap between the two teams has only widened, with the RCB having a solid upper hand over the CSK in recent times. The six-time champions, CSK, are just a shadow of their past, while RCB, after lifting their maiden IPL trophy in 2025, have never looked back.
With more than a quarter of the season through, RCB’s position at the top has recently been displaced by the PBKS, both of whome are sitting nicely with 4 wins apiece. CSK, on the other hand, opened their account on the back of three demoralizing back-to-back defeats before finding some form in their last two games. With 2 wins in 5 matches so far, CSK find themselves languishing at the 8th spot in the IPL 2026 points table.
